2020 Wedding Floral Trends | Discovering

Discussing the upcoming floral trends is one of our most favorite times of the year! We love reviewing and recapping the past year’s wedding trends, and ramping up to the new year and new ideas. We’re ready for all those new engagements and exciting floral and décor requests from our clients!

On that note, let’s talk all about 2020 floral trends! Floral and décor is one of my favorite parts of both the planning process and the wedding day. For this post, ee received helpful insights from a couple of our talented floral partners, Raining Roses and Fairbanks Florist. We couldn’t be more excited to share the fresh upcoming floral trends for our 2020 clients…so read on!

#1 – MODERN TROPICAL

This floral trend seems to be more prominent than we’ve seen before. The modern tropical style includes elements such as palm leaves, bright floral colors, and geometric shapes. Prepare to see this look in arches and arbors, centerpieces, and other décor accents.

Personally, I am excited and entranced by this wedding floral trend! I love the simple, clean look of a gold-dipped glass vase with a single palm leaf standing tall in the center of the table. This is the best wedding floral look for a modern, savvy couple!

#2 – MAUVE OVER BLUSH

Blush pink has been a fan-favorite for a number of years now; however, as of recently, we’re seeing more mauve making its way into wedding design. This more saturated shade of pink is edging out the popularity of blush, offering couples multiple ways to incorporate romantic pink hues into the wedding day!

Mauve is such an appealing and elegant color. It can be used against nearly any skintone, and pulls nicely with both gold and silver accents for centerpieces. This wedding floral trend is making a grand entrance into the 2020 wedding floral ideas!

#3 – LESS GREENERY

Greenery was the hottest floral trend a few years ago, and it remains a popular décor accent. In 2020, however, you can expect to see less of it. Couples are engaging with color, which means vivid floral is the star of the show! Styles will rely more on colored stock floral as well as metallic and geometric accents to help bring the wedding look together into a true showpiece!

#4 – CASCADING BOUQUETS

2019 was the year of the large, loose handheld bouquet. We saw a lot of “wildflower” and “Boho” type looks mixed in with more traditional, tightly formed bouquets. In 2020, we’re seeing more requests for cascading bouquets. While we think this is a fun trend, it’s not necessarily for everyone! Cascading bouquets are often quite heavy, and their design and size might overpower smaller women. Discuss your options with your florist before committing to this rising floral trend!

#5 – ACRYLIC, ACRYLIC, ACRYLIC

We’re seeing more acrylic structures at the ceremony, along with chairs and tables. Centerpieces are being displayed on acrylic risers instead of candleabras or vases. This was a popular trends years ago, and we couldn’t be more excited to see it coming back!

This wedding floral trend is perfect for that chic, modern couple. Not only can you see everything through the acrylic pieces, you can enjoy the timeless, clean look of it.

#6 – MOODY & VIBRANT COLORS

Say goodbye to the light, elegant neutral tones, and hello to bold and vibrant colors! This is another trend I am very much enthusiastic about. I’m seeing more of the bright fuchsias, reds, and oranges, brought nicely together with true leafy greens. Vibrantly colored wedding floral is best suited for the bold and adventurous couple – the showstoppers!

Also, dark and dramatic colors are becoming a huge hit for 2020. We’re seeing more of the merlot and blood reds and deep purples. Whether the arrangements are all dark, or if they involve some lighter colors to soften them, we are totally captivated by these looks!

The dark and bold floral trend is perfect for a winter or fall wedding date, or for the warm hearted, cozy-styled couple.

#7 – FLORAL CHANDELIERS & OVERHEAD STRUCTURES

With the resorts and venues that can accommodate them (rigging, height, size), we’re getting more requests for eye-enticing floral chandeliers. Keep in mind, these are an investment, but you can always go more minimal on the guest tables!

Also, with the venues that are able to accommodate the rigging, our clients are loving the overheard structures over the sweetheart or head table and guest tables. We’ve seen this in floral and greenery, and even hard structure elements. It draws your guests’ eyes upward, prompting them to say “Wow” as they take in each element hanging above them.
