My favorite 2021 wedding trends are here, and I’m so excited to share them with you! Meaningful, purposeful, and intentional have become the 2021 wedding buzz words. Weddings are being planned with the intent to create beautiful moments and cherished memories over flashy aesthetics and quick photo-ops.
The year of 2020 taught many of us to reflect, focus on the good things, and hold our loved ones close. 2021 couples are keeping this in mind, making sure every detail carefully showcases their focus on the entire wedding experience.

MY TOP 10 2021 WEDDING TRENDS
Trend #1 – Fresh Pops of Color
Bright, bold color is a 2021 wedding trend that is sure to spark joy and optimism for the year ahead. While whites, blushes, and creams are classic, unexpected hues are the “new white”. We expect to see couples showcase their personalities through cheery color palettes and print mixing. Everything from stationery to food and décor will incorporate this technicolor vibrancy in 2021!
Trend #2 – An Enhanced Guest Experience
What’s more intentional and personal than a customized welcome box for your guests? Not only are these perfectly functional for the times we are in, but they also look classic and cute (bonus!). A welcome box might include anything needed for the wedding day, such as masks, hand sanitizer, small keepsakes, programs, and favors. You could even customize the masks and hand-sanitizer with your names and wedding date!
Trend #3 – Outdoor Weddings
Imagine an intimate evening under hundreds of dazzling, twinkle lights. Outdoor weddings are becoming increasingly popular as couples consider the safety of their guests and vendors. Look to your wedding planner and vendor team to assist you in creating the ambiance you envision. Whether it’s a breezy, crisp afternoon or a romantic evening beneath the stars, outdoor venues and moody lighting are 2021 wedding trends we love!
Trend #4 – Stationery Flat Lays
There is nothing better than a perfectly set flat lay photo! If you’re not familiar, a flat lay is a photo showcasing all the pretty details of your wedding day. This shot commonly includes items such as your wedding stationery, a floral or two, your rings, additional jewelry, shoes, or any other meaningful details to capture your day. Some of my personal favorites have included artwork of the couple, a map of the venue, and vintage ribbon!
Trend #5 – Draping and Centerpieces
While twinkly lighting adds a romantic ambiance, pair that with dramatic draping and you add instant luxury and glamour to any venue! White draping keeps the look formal, while colored material looks new and exciting. (Remember, vibrant colors are IN!). Because draped ceilings are such a showstopper, keeping your centerpieces minimalistic and simple is encouraged. Dainty vases, simple clusters of florals, and warm candlelight present stunning centerpieces.
Trend #6 – Mini and Tiny Food & Beverage Options
A mini wedding cake just for me? Please and thank you! An assortment of mini and tiny wedding menu items will be served up in 2021, both for food safety reasons and because they’re just plain adorable!
Miniature individual wedding cakes are among the hottest 2021 wedding trends, replacing traditional cakes. These small, sweet treats are often big in pattern and detail while delivering sizable taste. Some couples have gotten creative and tied these tasty delights into their wedding favors, serving each mini cake on a customized coaster with their name engraved on it. Once the cake is enjoyed to its last crumb, guests have a fun favor to take home to remind them of the wedding day (and how yummy the cake was!)
Trend #7 – Lounge Spaces
Textured pillows, throw blankets, and patterned poufs are sure to make any room feel cozy. Among my favorite 2021 wedding trends is the inclusion of comfy lounge areas for guests to relax and mingle. These creative spaces are a great way to enhance your wedding theme! You can include mismatched seating, couches, chaises, poufs, rugs, coffee tables, and drink trays reflecting your wedding color palette. Enjoying a wedding on the couch with a cocktail in hand? I can’t think of anything sweeter!
Trend #8 – Sentimental Tabletops
2021 couples are including a number of intentional and sentimental elements in their wedding day experience, especially in their table design. Envision an array of candles, layers of china plates, crystal glassware, and lavish linens. With the rise of intimate weddings comes nostalgic tabletops.
Personal mementos, handmade place cards, guest thank you notes, and custom linens are among the most popular 2021 wedding trends in table design, and we love it! Personally, the tiniest details always prove to be my favorite aspects of any wedding. I’ve come to realize that they usually showcase the couple’s personality and love story in the biggest way.
Trend #9 – A Year of Florals
Meaningful, stunning floral arrangements are surfacing this year. Couples are choosing their florals based on special meaning instead of focusing on the most popular flower “of the moment”. They’re choosing floral that relates to a special memory they share, such as the flowers given and received during their first date. Isn’t that so romantic?
Trend #10 – Sparkles, Slips & Sleeves
I have to admit, I saved the best 2021 wedding trend for last! The walk down the aisle is truly one of the most breathtaking moments of the entire wedding day, so a breathtaking dress is clearly essential! Short dresses are popular this year, and I think that’s the perfect excuse to show off some stellar shoes.
Subtle sparkle, slip dresses, bishop sleeves, layered skirts, and square necklines are more of what you’ll see on 2021 brides. Pants continue to be a polished dress alternative, and I’m totally here for it (hello, dance floor!). Complete your look with glistening fabric, detachable sleeves, and lace, and you’re sure to feel beautiful and bold on your big day!
