Today we’re featuring a question we get probably more than any other from our wedding planning clients:

Q: “How do I get my Florida marriage license?”

A: To get your Florida marriage license, you will need a completed license application and the required fee. As of the date of this post, the average fee for filing for a Florida marriage license is $93.50. Some additional points you need to know:

  • You can get your marriage license at any Florida County Clerk of Court. It will be valid in every Florida County. Orange and Osceola are the closest counties to Orlando. If you’d like to book transportation to the courthouse, let us know…we can help!
  • There is a three-day waiting period for Florida residents. Florida residents can waive this waiting period by participating in approved pre-marital counseling for a fee. This counseling typically offers a discount on the marriage license fee.
  • There is no waiting period for non-Florida residents. You can go right to the courthouse with your completed application and processing fee and get your license the same day.
  • The Brevard County Clerk of Court offers a marriage license by mail service, convenient for out-of-state or out-of-country couples. You can find more information on their website here.
  • Both of you must be present and have a legal, valid form of identification when applying for your license.
  • No blood test is required.
  • You must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Florida residents who have been divorced within the past 90 days must present the divorce decree. For non-Florida residents, this applies if you have been divorced within the past year.
  • You will need to bring your marriage license with you on the wedding day and present it to your officiant, who will notarize it and file it with the State of Florida.
  • It takes about 10 days (a bit longer for out-of-country couples) to receive your certified copy of your marriage certificate after the wedding.
