Swan and Dolphin Disney Wedding

Surrounded by close friends and family all the way from the UK, Danielle and Wayne exchanged vows in an intimate wedding ceremony on the White Sand Beach of the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resort in December of 2012. They were truly a pleasure to work with and we are thrilled to have been part of their special day.

Below, Danielle shares a few thoughts and memories from her wedding planning experience and photos of their Orlando destination wedding!

Tell us about the proposal! We were on holiday in Tunisia in 2008 when we went for a walk along the beach on our last night, Wayne got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I said yes straight away as I knew he was the man I wanted to spend the rest of my life with. We had already been together for five years.

Why did you choose your particular wedding location? We wanted to get married in the sunshine and in a Disney location. We looked at a few venues but fell in love with the beach setting and the view. Also, the hotel looked amazing and we could imagine ourselves being there. When you’re planning a wedding abroad this is something that is very important.

What challenges did you face during the planning process? The main challenge was planning a wedding when you couldn’t see it. We had to imagine ourselves being there and used Google maps a lot to get an idea. Karen [Just Marry! Wedding Planner] was brilliant with helping me to answer all our questions and worries!

What was your favorite wedding item purchase? My favorite wedding item has to be my dress as it was a Disney Cinderella dress by Alfred Angelo.

What was the most memorable part of the day for you and your spouse? The most memorable part of the day was standing at the iron arch looking into each others eyes and having the sun shining down on us, knowing that all the saving was worth it. We couldn’t stop smiling.

What was your biggest fear about the wedding day? My biggest fear was tripping over my dress on the sand as I was walking down the aisle as everyone was looking at me.

Were there any particular elements of your wedding day that you considered unique or personal touches? We had a Disney theme to our wedding, we had our ring pillow made which was a Mickey Mouse head, and we also had our order of the days in Mickey Mouse shapes. At the wedding reception we kept to the theme and our tables were Disney princesses as well as our name cards had Mickey mouse heads for the men and Minnie mouse for the women.

What advice would you give to other couples as they begin their planning process? I would advised them to do their research on venues and be organized. I made myself a wedding book for all ideas and paperwork which I found very useful as it was all in one place.

What are you most looking forward to in newlywed life? We are looking forward to being together and starting our own family.
