Travel Tips for Your Orlando Destination Wedding

Every year we work with hundreds of couples on planning their Orlando destination weddings. We love sharing helpful travel tips with those couples who may be visiting our beautiful city for the first time. If you’re heading our way in the near future, here are some tips to keep in mind:

  1. Bring sunscreen. We’re called The Sunshine State for a reason! We can’t tell you how many couples visit Florida and think they’re going to get a little tan before the wedding only to end up red and blistered. Save your skin and wear sunscreen every time you go outside. Oh … and brides, please think about tan lines!
  2. Don’t carry too much cash. Having some cash when you travel is essential, but it’s generally wiser to use your credit or debit card to pay for things. If the worst happens and you’re either robbed or lose your wallet, you can always cancel your cards.
  3. Remember bug spray. It doesn’t matter what time of year you visit, there will be mosquitoes here. Not only do these insects leave unattractive welts on your skin, they carry diseases like encephalitis, West Nile Virus, and Zika Virus. Protect yourself as well as possible by wearing bug repellant.
  4. Carry on your wedding attire. Packing your wedding clothes is likely to wrinkle them. Help avoid this by carrying them onto the plane with you rather than checking them.
  5. Pack a poncho. Especially in the summer, we tend to get sporadic rain showers. You might leave your hotel or rental with the sun shining and end up getting caught in a thunderstorm within an hour. Always have a poncho (or an umbrella) handy.
  6. Keep early (or late) hours. The heat of the day is highest from noon until four. To avoid heat exhaustion and bad sunburn, plan on early excursions or go out later in the evening to enjoy the nightlife.
  7. Stay hydrated. You’ll probably be doing a lot of walking while you’re here. Carry a Thermos or water bottle with you at all times and be sure to drink plenty of water. Bonus tip: most Orlando parks have water fountains you can use to refill your bottle for free.
  8. Wear a hat and sunglasses. If you’re spending the day at local theme parks or other area attractions, protect your eyes and scalp from the sun’s rays.
  9. Capture the big moments. Don’t forget to bring along a camera, even if it’s your smartphone. You’ll be creating lots of great memories here!
