Tips to Stay Calm the Week of the Wedding | Planner to Planning

Planner to Planning - Jessica and Alex - Just Marry - Sydney Morman Photography

Staying calm as a bride during the week of the wedding is much easier said than done. Trust me, I’ve been there! While I like to think I did a pretty good job at staying calm during the week of my own wedding, I definitely had a few panicked moments! Here are some of my favorite tips that I implemented during my own wedding week, and some that I probably should have done!

HOW TO STAY CALM THE WEEK OF THE WEDDING

#1 - Hire a Wedding Planner

While this is something you’ll need to do in advance of your wedding week, of course, I can’t tell you how helpful it was to have my day-of coordinator in my corner. She was so helpful every step of the way, but especially the week of the wedding! I was able to rely on her for little tasks, such as last-minute confirmations with the vendors or agenda changes, so that I could focus on the bigger tasks! Trust me, the small stuff adds up quickly, and it’s so helpful to have someone to help!

#2 - Make a list...or many of them!

I am a planner by nature, so the best way for me to stay calm is to make a list of everything I need to do. I made a list for what I needed to pack in my suitcase, what my husband needed to pack in his, what I needed to pack for my wedding planner, and what I had to complete before leaving for the wedding weekend. It was very helpful for me to get my thoughts out of my head and on paper!

#3 - Incorporate time to relax

I know this sounds much easier said than done, but it’s important to schedule some time to relax during the week of the wedding! We checked into our resort on Wednesday, and the first thing my husband and I did was visited the spa for a couples’ massage. It was so necessary for us to take just an hour to unwind before we had to spend the next couple of days greeting guests and completing last minute tasks, not to mention attending all of our pre-wedding events!

#4 - Don't be afraid to tell people you're busy

Your family and friends will of course be excited to see you and will try to make plans with you during the week of the wedding. Don’t be afraid to tell them that you will be busy, even if you don’t have something specific scheduled. They will understand! For us, we told our families to check with our mothers on any details so we could focus on everything we needed to get done.

#5 - Accept that plans will change

As much time as we spend planning our special day, there is always something that doesn’t go just right. It happens! If you’re straightforward with yourself about being lenient with the plans and know that you might need to roll with the punches, it will help you be that much more relaxed the week of the wedding! Trust your planner, your vendors, and your family and friends to do their jobs and make your day relaxing and special!

#6 - Lean on your support system

People will ask what they can do to help during the week of the wedding; take them up on those offers! There are usually silly little tasks that you can easily do yourself, but it will be helpful if someone else takes it off your plate for you. Even if it’s something as simple as bringing you a snack or a water while you’re getting your hair done, your people will be happy to help! Take advantage; it’s your wedding week, after all!

#7 - Focus on how each moment feels

It’s so easy to get caught up in all the chaos of the week of your wedding that you forget to sit back and enjoy it! This is something I worked really hard on being mindful of; I didn’t want to feel like I blinked and the whole weekend was over. If there was something that I didn’t feel up to doing, I simply didn’t do it. Could I have gotten more photos after the ceremony? Sure, I could have. But I was starting to feel really tired and hungry, and instead spent some alone time with my new husband enjoying our cocktail hour hors d’oeuvres. I feel like because I asked myself, “Do I really WANT to do this?” throughout the day, I got to take in every single moment. We spent a really long time planning and waiting for this day, and it was absolutely perfect!
