Ask the Planner: Hiring Wedding Vendors

Here at Just Marry!, we pioneered the concept of all-inclusive weddings here in Central Florida. We’re experts at hiring the perfect vendors for every couple. That said, we understand that some couples prefer to book their own vendors…which brings us to today’s Ask the Planner question:
Q: “I’m considering booking an all-inclusive wedding but it scares me to allow someone else to book all of my wedding vendors. Should I hire my own instead?”
A: For some couples, wedding planning is so stressful that they can’t imagine handling everything themselves. For others, it’s all about keeping their planning within their control. Deciding which side of this fence you fall on can help you decide whether you should hire your own wedding vendors or turn it over to a professional.
Let’s say you’re sitting on the fence on this topic. What are some questions you should answer to make this decision?
- Am I comfortable letting go of some of my wedding planning decisions? If you feel comfortable working with one point person to handle all of your vendor hiring, contract management, payments, and communication, then an all-inclusive package might be right for you. If you want to meet each individual vendor, review every contract, manage every payment and deadline, etc., then booking your own vendors is the way to go.
- Do I have a plan for emergencies on the wedding day? The last thing you want to have to deal with on your wedding day is a vendor not showing up, showing up late, providing the incorrect service, or anything else you don’t expect. If you book an all-inclusive wedding package, your package coordinator handles all of that. If you hired everyone yourself, you’ll either deal with problems yourself or need to have someone else identified to handle them for you.
- Are you planning a nontraditional wedding? Most all-inclusive wedding packages cover all of the traditional wedding services, from photography to floral and music. If you’re planning a nontraditional wedding and won’t need all of those services, then it might be best to hire only the vendors and services you want. Of course, the all-inclusive wedding package might also be pretty flexible, so it never hurts to ask for special options!
