We’re honored today to feature tips on creating your wedding photography checklist inspired by advice offered by Just Marry! bride, Vanessa! We had the pleasure of working with Vanessa and her now-husband Jonathan on their spring wedding at the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resort. When we followed up with the happy couple to ask what they learned through the wedding planning process and on their big day, here is what Vanessa shared with us:

“Because the day does go so quickly, make sure you have a list of shots that are important for your photographer to get ahead of time. There were some shots that my husband and I had wanted but did not remember to ask our photographer for that day. [On the wedding day] there will be things that might not go as planned. That’s okay. Just laugh it off and enjoy your day!”Wedding Photography Checklist

We truly couldn’t agree more, Vanessa! Thank you for taking the time to share your tips and tricks with us and the rest of the Just Marry! family. Your insight will help many other couples!

Vanessa’s advice about having a wedding photography checklist is something all couples should keep in mind. Note that a wedding photography checklist isn’t necessarily a “shot list.” Professional wedding photographers will know the big shots that should be captured at every wedding. You can always bring a shot list if it makes you more comfortable, of course!

More to the point, if there are any special shots you absolutely know you want to have, those shots should make it onto your checklist. A few other things that should make your checklist:

  • Any signs or props you want included in your photos.
  • Any sites at your venue(s) that you know you want to serve as a backdrop for your photos.
  • Any particular poses or “staged” scenes or images you want the photographer to capture.
