5 Things to Know about Wedding Photographers
June 26, 2016 by Just Marry!
Wedding photographers capture the most precious memories from a happy couple’s big day, so choosing the right one is of the utmost importance. There are some key things every couple should know as they begin interviewing potential photographers. We reached out to the wedding community and got some great feedback from amazing photography vendors that we wanted to share with you:
- Yes, we will be among the most expensive vendors you hire…and here’s why:
“Some photographers pay 35% income tax not including the cost to run their business, save for retirement, liquid savings, etc. It surprises me how many clients believe what they pay us all goes into our pocket.” – Kathy Thomas, Kathy Thomas Photography
“We put soooo many hours into each client, from the consultation, to the emails/texts/calls, to the day of, and then it’s onto the selection, editing, and uploading process! It’s all done with the utmost love but it’s important clients understand the entire process takes a lot of time, hence why it costs what it does.” – Elle Baez, Captured by Elle Photo and Video
- You really want to hire a professional photographer you connect with over someone with little experience or just “the right price.”
“An efficient and experienced photographer is very critical to keeping your timeline moving along on schedule. Slow and inexperienced photographers make introductions late, food late, etc., causing you stress as you try to make up and crunch events together.” – Derek Smith, Sunshine Photographics
“Finding the right wedding photographer is more than just looking for pretty photos. Couples need to find what style of work speaks to them and they also need to connect with the photographer. Personality meshing well is a big deal. You will be spending the entire day with us while we capture those special moments.” – Brittani Hon, The Hons Photography
- We know you’re excited about getting your photographs, but we need time to get them perfect for you.
“We need time to make the magic happen. I promise those gorgeous photos you have been drooling over for the past year took time and planning!” – Tab McCausland, Tabitha Photography
- We need you to communicate with us.
“Communication before the wedding day is so important. Couples need to understand that they have to communicate the flow of the day to us. Ignoring our emails and calls will cause issues and delays on the wedding day.” – JoAnn Rhodes, Rhodes Studios
- We’re not your wedding planners…and you really need a good one.
“After shooting weddings for 27 years in Orlando and the Disney area, I can attest that if couples DO NOT HIRE a Planner/Coordinator, then they look to their photographer for guidance and a time line. I find myself pinning on flowers, calling the florist looking for flowers, making sure the rings and marriage license are there, checking that the limo drivers are on the way so we get to the reception on time, etc. I don’t have a problem with that, it just takes away from what I was hired for and can cost the couple photos they might want. God Bless our coordinators!” – Randy Chapman, Chapman Photography
